Occupations in the Health Sciences represent the largest and fastest‐growing industry in the United States, employing over 10 million workers in more than 200 careers. National labor market information indicates that eight out of the top 20 fastest‐growing occupations are in the Health Science industry. Rapid job growth is expected in all areas of the health care industry.

PCCA offers three different healthcare certifications that students can obtain while in high school:

  1. Certified Nursing Assistant
  2. Patient Care Technician ( CNA certification is a pre-requisite)  
  3. Certified Medical Assistant

Careers in the Therapeutic Services pathway are focused primarily on changing the health status of the patient over time. Health professionals in this pathway work directly with patients and may provide care, treatment, counseling and health education information.

Careers in Medical Assisting play a vital role in the healthcare field by working collaboratively with other members of a health care team in doctor’s offices, medical clinics, hospitals, and specialty practices. Course standards will focus on patient care, venipuncture, electrocardiogram, vital signs, immunizations, medical coding, electronic medical charting, and medical records. This training prepares students to sit for a Medical Assisting certification exam

Possible Student Pathway Credentialing Opportunities: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) National Healthcare Association‐Certified Patient Care Technician (NHA‐CPCT). Students may sit for this exam if they take an additional 4th course.
